PAMELA PALMER JONES
Piano and Harpsichord

Pamela Palmer Jones is one of the most highly sought-after keyboard collaborative artists in the Intermountain area, and has worked extensively as a piano soloist and chamber musician in the United States and Europe.  She is a member of the international artist roster of the Beethoven Park City Chamber Music Festival, and also performs regularly as pianist and harpsichordist with several of Utah's finest performing ensembles including The Vivaldi Virtuosi, Ensemble Iris, Salt Lake Symphony, and Utah's newest professional chamber orchestra, Sinfonia Salt Lake.  She has performed numerous times for the Temple Square Recital Series, and on several of KBYU's "Highway 89" live radio broadcasts. She has performed in masterclasses for Aldo Ciccolini, John Perry, Christopher Hogwood, and Paul Badura-Skoda. Concerto performances include Gershwin's Concerto in F with the University of Utah Wind Symphony; Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor and Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 with the Los Angeles Valley Symphony Orchestra; Beethoven's Concerto No. 4 with the UCLA, Harper College and SummerArts orchestras, Finzi's Eclogue with the SLCC/Taylorsville Orchestra; Vivaldi's Concerto in A Major with The Vivaldi Virtuosi; J.S. Bach's Concerto for 4 Harpsichords with the Paradigm Chamber Orchestra; and Falla's Concerto for Harpsichord and J.S. Bach's Harpsichord Concerto in F Minor, performed with the artists of the Beethoven Park City Chamber Music Festival. 

She earned a B.M. degree in piano performance from the University of Utah, where she studied with Alan Ball, Gladys Gladstone, and Solveig Lunde Madsen.  She then was awarded a full graduate fellowship to study piano at UCLA with famed Canadian/American pianist and pedagogue Johana Harris.  She earned an MFA degree in Historical Performance Practice (piano and harpsichord) at UCLA, and also won first place in every performance contest at that institution including the Atwater Kent, Nancy Kendall Robinson, and Concerto competitions. She was a major prizewinner in the Mu Phi Epsilon, Phi Beta, Glendale Symphony, and MTNA competitions in the greater Los Angeles area.  She then was awarded another full graduate fellowship to the Royal College of Music in London England, to study piano with noted British pianist and teacher John Barstow, and harpsichord with Robert Woolley, and was later awarded the ARCM (Associate, Royal College of Music) Performers Diploma in Piano Performance. After returning to the USA, she continued her studies with Johana Harris, and later studied with Dr. Kenneth Drake, Beethoven scholar, historical performer, and professor emeritus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. 

Jones began her college teaching career in the Chicagoland area, as a piano professor at Harper College and also the College of Lake County.  Upon relocating back to Salt Lake City, she became a piano professor at Salt Lake Community College from 2004-2014, and later returned to the University of Utah in 2007 to complete a doctoral degree in two years (studying with Dr. Susan Duehlmeier), receiving the first ever DMA degree in Piano Performance awarded by that institution.  She is now a professor of music at the University of Utah, specializing in Historical Pedagogy and Performance Practice, and also teaches Harpsichord, Music Theory, and Musicianship.  Dr. Jones was the recipient of the 2016 University of Utah College of Fine Arts Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching, given for her innovative work with undergraduate music students and special mentoring of TAs and DMA students. 

Pam Jones is very happily married to Alan Jones, a professor of Business & Economics at Western Governor's University.  Their family currently includes three wonderful sons, three amazing daughters-in-law, and,  so far, one totally perfect grandchild.
